Lesson Explanation

Going to a restaurant in an English-speaking country — or an international restaurant — requires knowing a set of specific phrases. A restaurant conversation typically follows a clear structure: arriving and getting a table, reading the menu, ordering, and paying.

In English, it is polite to use “I would like…” or “Could I have…” when ordering — these are more polite than simply saying “I want…”, which can sound too direct.

💡
Pro Tip: Use “I’d like…” (short for “I would like”) when ordering — it is polite, natural, and used by native speakers in almost every restaurant situation.
