Lesson Explanation

Being able to name and describe objects in your home is a very practical English skill. You will need this vocabulary when describing where you live, giving instructions to guests, or simply having a conversation about daily life at home.

To describe the location of objects, we use prepositions of place:

on“The book is on the table.”
in“The clothes are in the wardrobe.”
next to / beside“The lamp is next to the bed.”
under / above / opposite“The mat is under the table.”

💡
Pro Tip: When describing your home to someone in English, start with the rooms, then the furniture, then the smaller objects — this makes your description clear and easy to follow.
