Lesson Explanation

Animals are a fun and important vocabulary topic in English. We use animal vocabulary when talking about pets, nature, farms, and even in idioms and expressions. Animals in English are divided into several categories: pets, farm animals, wild animals, birds, and sea animals.

Useful grammar for talking about animals:

✦ Use “it” for animals unless you know their gender — “The cat is sleeping. It looks so peaceful.”
✦ Use “he / she” for pets you know well — “My dog is called Max. He is very friendly.”
✦ Animal sounds: dogs bark, cats meow, cows moo, birds sing / tweet.

Pro Tip: Many English expressions use animal names — “to be as busy as a bee” (مشغول جداً), “it’s raining cats and dogs” (تمطر بغزارة), “the early bird catches the worm” (الباكر يحظى بالفرصة). Learning these idioms makes your English much more natural!
